Physical Education Curriculum Overview
Our objective is to equip children with the skills necessary to engage confidently in a broad spectrum of physical activities. We adhere to the National Curriculum for Physical Education, which outlines that pupils should be taught to:
- Master fundamental movements such as running, jumping, throwing, and catching, while also developing balance, agility, and coordination. These skills are then applied across a variety of activities.
- Participate in team games, learning basic strategies for both attacking and defending.
- Perform dances using simple movement patterns.
These competencies are nurtured through weekly PE sessions conducted both indoors and outdoors. Our curriculum includes dance, gymnastics, athletics, and games, with a focus on ball skills, sending and receiving, and core movement fundamentals. Pupils have access to a wide range of equipment, enabling them to apply their skills in diverse contexts—for example, using rugby, football, basketball, and tennis balls.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage, physical development is a key focus. Activities are thoughtfully planned within the classroom and on the outdoor terrace to support both fine and gross motor skill development. In addition to weekly PE lessons, children participate in regular Bikeability sessions using the school’s own balance bikes.
